About The Position

Burton Center is looking for a dedicated and compassionate individual to fill the role of a fulltime House Assistant. The ideal candidate for this position will be motivated, outgoing, and detail-oriented! By communicating effectively and maintaining a positive attitude, the House Assistant will work closely with Direct Support Professionals, families, and Burton Center leadership to ensure each individual in their care is able to live to their fullest potential! Above all, they value dignity, respect, and person-centered care for adults with special needs and disabilities. About Burton Center Burton Center is a non-profit disability and special needs board. Our organization was created in 1971 to provide essential services to individuals with disabilities and special needs and to offer much needed assistance to their families. Over the last five decades, we have been able to expand our range of services and widen our range of services. With locations in Abbeville, Edgefield, Greenwood, Lexington, McCormick, Ware Shoals, and Saluda counties, Burton Center's staff of 325, assists over 500 people. Our services are provided free of charge to those who meet specific eligibility criteria by the South Carolina Office of Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities. We offer Day Programs, Residential Services, and Employment Placement Programs. About the Position This is a first shift, full-time position. Regular business hours will be Monday - Friday from 8:00am - 5:00pm with on-call hours as needed. As a House Assistant with Burton Center, you will be able to support adults ages 21 and up with disabilities and special needs across three residential homes. This role ensures each home is safe, well-maintained, and aligns with each individuals' support needs. You will be responsible for completing routine safety checks, restocking groceries and personal hygiene supplies, and assisting individuals on routine shopping trips, appointments, and budgeting. While demonstrating a positive and professional attitude, you will also train and support Direct Support Professionals (DSP) to implement Individual Support Plans effectively for each adult. You will also be responsible for creating schedules that are adequately staffed, modeling the best practices in care, communication, and teamwork, and interacting with individuals' family members in a warm, professional manner. Staying organized and completing online progress reports, goals, and daily notes in a timely manner will ensure compliance with Burton Center, federal, and state policies and procedures. This position requires hands-on support, reliability, and a commitment to developing and discovering unlimited potential in adults with disabilities and special needs!

Requirements

  • SC Driver's License
  • Ability to lift or maneuver up to 50lbs
  • One year of experience in leadership, customer service, or similar role
  • Ability to pass SafeServ Food Handler course
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
  • Ability to stand or walk for long periods of time
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills
