About The Position

To safely, economically and efficiently perform maintenance, modification and required installation of transmission facilities. On a daily basis, the Substation Apparatus Technician Apprentice will work closely with the Transmission Maintenance Manager, and the Transmission Line Working Foreman, keeping them informed of operation problems, personnel issues and other items of interest or general knowledge. The Hotstick Lineman Apprentice shall be accountable for parts and material needed, equipment and supplies used in performance of duties.

Requirements

Enrollment and completion of a four (4) year apprenticeship program which is recognized by the State Apprenticeship Council. Extended practical on the job experience may be substituted in lieu of meeting formal apprenticeship training requirements.
Must be prepared to perform maintenance on a call-out basis.
Ability to train and/or orient other personnel in the maintenance of transmission line equipment.
Ability and initiative to carry out work assignments.
Have a good safety record.
Be physically fit for the work of the trade.
Have a minimum of a high school education or its equivalent and shall furnish the AEPCO Joint Apprenticeship Committee with a transcript of high school courses, grade or other conclusive evidence of a proper educational background.
Agree to abide by all decisions of the AEPCO Joint Apprenticeship Committee.
Successfully pass prescribed test approved by AEPCO Joint Apprenticeship Committee.
In addition to basic qualifications, an employee interested in Apprentice training will be required to take certain tests designated by the AEPCO Joint Apprenticeship Committee. Job related tests will be administered as necessary to meet apprentice qualifications of each trade.
Applicants shall be at least 18 years of age.
Shall possess or have the ability to obtain a valid Arizona Commercial Driver License (Class A) within one year from date of hire.

Responsibilities

Maintain as assigned all transmission lines owned or controlled by the Cooperative or interconnecting systems.
Perform, at regular intervals, a preventative maintenance inspection to locate potential problems to ensure system integrity.
Maintain accurate logs of all work performed on transmission lines used in the operation of the electric system. Prepare accurate records as required to ensure efficient overall operation, maintenance and inventory requirements.
Maintain good house keeping practices on all equipment to promote safety and better operation of equipment. Properly clean care for, and protect equipment used in the discharge of duties and as assigned by the Cooperative.
Perform switching on the electric system in conformance with established operational procedures as directed.
Perform live line work as assigned.
Assist in the performance of construction and maintenance work as directed.
Act as a technical consultant to Managers and engineering personnel, and assist in the inspections of transmission lines under construction.
Safe and efficient operation of all light and heavy mobile line equipment and vehicles.
Performs other occupational related duties as required, and which qualified to perform safely.
