Hotel Portfolio Controller

Palette Hotels•New York, NY

About The Position

Palette Hotels Finance team seeks a Hotel Portfolio Controller. As a Hotel Portfolio Controller, you own the month-end close and the accuracy of the financial statements for a portfolio of hotels. Our offshore accounting team prepares most of the journal entries and reconciliations; you will direct, review, and approve that work, handle the issues that require judgment, and ensure every property closes accurately and on time. You are the accounting partner General Managers, owners, and lenders count on, and you lead the finance side of transitioning hotels into and out of the Palette Hotels portfolio.

Requirements

  • B.A. (or higher) in Accounting or Finance
  • 5+ years progressive accounting experience with responsibility for multiple hospitality properties, and strong working knowledge of GAAP.
  • A track record of owning multiple ledgers at once and delivering a timely, accurate month-end close.
  • The ability to review others' work and prioritize across multiple properties with limited supervision.
  • Clear communication with non-finance partners, including General Managers, and owners.
  • Advanced Excel skills

Nice To Haves

  • You treat your properties' books as your own and don't call a close finished until the numbers are correct.
  • Owners, lenders, and operators rely on your financials without a second look.
  • General Managers and Regional Director of Operations call you first, and respond with speed, care, and accuracy.
  • You know each property's contracts well enough to keep the company compliant and explain what makes each hotel unique.
  • You raise the quality of the offshore team's work through thoughtful review, coaching, and feedback.
  • You ask why a number looks the way it does instead of accepting it
  • You bring solutions, not just problems, and work across teams to reach the right answer
  • You thrive with limited supervision in a growing company that is still defining how it works.

Responsibilities

  • Own the general ledger and month-end close for each assigned property, and give final sign-off.
  • Review and approve offshore team work, including journal entries, accruals, and balance sheet reconciliations; prepare the non-routine entries yourself.
  • Run flux analysis against prior period, budget, and forecast, and explain the results to General Managers.
  • Oversee daily revenue and cash controls, and manage short-term cash forecasting and payment timing.
  • Deliver monthly owner and lender packages, covenant calculations (DSCR, debt yield), and escrow and reserve reconciliations.
  • Keep reporting and fees compliant with management agreements, lender requirements, GAAP, and USALI.
  • Serve as the accounting lead for owner, lender, brand, and external audits.
  • Lead the finance workstream for hotel onboarding and offboarding, from opening balances to final settlement.
  • Find the manual steps that shouldn't exist and fix them through automation, AI, or other processes.
