About The Position

Sundial Hotel is seeking a hands-on and technically skilled Maintenance Manager to join our leadership team. We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the property, works alongside the team, and is equally comfortable managing building systems, completing repairs, and responding to urgent maintenance issues. The Hotel Maintenance Manager is responsible for the upkeep, safety, and reliable operation of the hotel and its building systems. This is a hands-on, fully on-site leadership role. You will work alongside a team of professionals while overseeing preventive maintenance, repairs, guestroom standards, scheduling, projects, and emergency response. The right candidate leads from the floor, takes ownership, and helps maintain the high standards and reputation of The Sundial Hotel.

Requirements

  • Must currently live in Whistler or elsewhere in the Sea-to-Sky corridor.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • At least three years of supervisory experience in hotel, resort, or multi-unit residential maintenance.
  • Strong hands-on knowledge of plumbing, electrical, HVAC, mechanical, and general building repairs.
  • Proven ability to lead a team while remaining actively involved in daily maintenance work.
  • Strong troubleshooting, organization, communication, and time-management skills.
  • Comfortable using maintenance software and basic administrative systems.
  • Able to respond to urgent maintenance issues when required.
  • Valid drivers licence.

  • A recognized trade certification is a strong asset.

Responsibilities

  • Lead and participate in daily maintenance, repairs, preventive maintenance, and capital projects.
  • Troubleshoot and oversee HVAC, plumbing, electrical, mechanical, hot tub, and general building systems.
  • Complete regular property walkthroughs to identify and resolve issues before they affect guests.
  • Maintain guestrooms, public areas, staff housing, Carleton Lodge units, rooftops, mechanical rooms, and exterior areas to a high standard.
  • Act as the primary technical contact for strata, ownership, contractors, and service providers.
  • Lead, schedule, train, and support the maintenance and security team.
  • Work alongside the team and provide clear priorities, accountability, and operational coverage.
  • Coordinate scheduling with occupancy levels, hotel needs, and project timelines.
  • Support payroll approvals, performance reviews, onboarding, and team development.
  • Oversee emergency response, security incidents, room lockouts, noise complaints, surveillance systems, and parking enforcement.
  • Ensure fire systems, smoke detectors, emergency lighting, and other life safety equipment are regularly inspected and operational.
  • Maintain compliance with WorkSafeBC, applicable building codes, safety regulations, and hotel procedures.
  • Keep maintenance records, incident reports, safety documentation, training logs, and operating manuals current.
  • Manage tools, parts, chemicals, supplies, and departmental inventory.
  • Prepare and manage operating budgets, capital plans, labour forecasts, and project timelines.
  • Coordinate contractors, specialized repairs, installations, inspections, and warranty work.
  • Ensure purchasing and invoice approvals follow hotel and strata procedures.
