About The Position

The Hotel Director of Finance serves as the property’s strategic financial leader, responsible for optimizing profitability, maintaining the integrity of financial operations, and providing timely and accurate financial information to ownership and management. This position is an active and engaged member of the Hotel Executive Committee and serves as a strategic business partner to the General Manager and department leaders. The Hotel Director of Finance oversees the property’s accounting function, including financial reporting, income audit, accounts payable, accounts receivable, cash flow management, financial controls, budgeting, and cost control. This position provides analytical insight and financial guidance to support strategic decision-making, identify performance improvement opportunities, maximize revenue and profitability, and drive overall business results.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 7–10 years of progressive accounting or finance experience, preferably within the hospitality industry.
  • Strong knowledge of financial accounting principles and experience with all three major financial statements: balance sheet, income statement, and cash flow statement.
  • Demonstrated experience with financial reporting, budgeting, forecasting, variance analysis, financial controls, and cost management.
  • Experience overseeing accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, income audit, and general ledger functions.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to translate financial data into actionable business recommendations.
  • Proven ability to build strong working relationships and credibility with ownership, executive leadership, department leaders, and staff through effective communication and collaboration.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead, coach, and develop others through teaching, feedback, training, and priority setting.
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills with the ability to balance competing priorities and meet strict deadlines.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with strong business judgment and attention to detail.
  • Advanced computer proficiency, including Microsoft Office applications.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field required.

Responsibilities

  • Oversees the preparation and accuracy of the property’s financial statements, including the balance sheet, profit and loss statement, and cash flow.
  • Responsible for the entire income audit function and ensures the integrity of all revenue sources reported through property management and financial systems.
  • Reconciles control accounts to supporting documentation and prepares general ledger adjusting journal entries at month-end.
  • Publishes financial statements and prepares monthly variance analysis comparing actual results to budget and prior year.
  • Oversees accounts payable, accounts receivable, income audit, and outlet accounting procedures.
  • Establishes, maintains, and monitors financial controls to minimize the risk of misappropriation of funds or assets.
  • Evaluates established controls and standardized procedures and identifies opportunities to improve efficiency, accuracy, and compliance.
  • Ensures adherence to CSM accounting, procurement, and operational policies and procedures.
  • Coordinates the development of the property’s annual budget and provides financial guidance to department leaders throughout the planning process.
  • Partners with business leaders to improve the quality of financial planning and forecasting and to identify opportunities to improve business performance.
  • Oversees property accounts receivable, including direct billing and collection activities.
  • Monitors accounts receivable aging, ensures timely billing and collection of outstanding balances, and provides input regarding credit policies and payment standards.
  • Maintains appropriate controls over direct billing customers and coordinates the use of outside collection agencies when appropriate.
  • Partners with department leaders to maximize operational efficiency, revenue, and profitability.
  • Provides financial guidance related to labor and operating expenses, identifies cost-saving and revenue-generating opportunities, and evaluates the potential costs and benefits of new business opportunities.
  • Applies sound business judgment and ensures compliance with CSM procurement guidelines.
  • Serves as a trusted financial advisor to the General Manager, Executive Committee, and department leaders.
  • Provides financial and operational insight to support strategic and accurate decision-making.
  • Proactively analyzes financial and economic trends, identifies performance improvement opportunities, and develops recommendations to improve profitability and return on investment.
  • Communicates financial concepts, results, and recommendations in a clear and persuasive manner that drives understanding and desired business outcomes.
  • Provides leadership and direction for the property’s accounting function and serves as a resource to management and staff regarding financial processes, controls, reporting, and procedures.
  • Recommends improvements and alternative approaches to increase departmental efficiency and effectiveness.
  • Maintains strong working relationships with Corporate, Field, and Accounting teams to ensure financial reporting and information needs are effectively supported.
  • Leads and develops the accounting team through effective hiring, onboarding, training, coaching, performance management, priority setting, and recognition.
  • Builds a collaborative, professional, and accountable team environment and develops the skills and capabilities of team members through ongoing feedback and development.
  • Effectively manages multiple priorities and meets strict financial reporting and operational deadlines.
  • Demonstrates strong written and verbal communication, sound judgment, accountability, and attention to detail.
