About The Position

The Hot Shot Driver is responsible for picking up and delivering internal and rental equipment, attachments, and supplies to various job sites using a company-supplied one-ton or larger truck and gooseneck trailer. This role requires a safety-minded, professional driver who can operate heavy equipment, manage load documentation, and communicate effectively with dispatch and field teams. The Hot Shot Driver serves as a representative of Whitaker Construction and is expected to advocate for safety and teamwork in support of all company programs, policies, and standards. Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED preferred. Any vocational training is strongly desired.
  • Those with an education and/or work-related credential from a secondary or post-secondary educational system will be given preferred interview status (Precision Exams, NOCTE, etc.).
  • Must hold a current, valid CDL and meet all DOT driver qualification rules and regulations.
  • Experience operating heavy trucks and towing gooseneck trailers with loads up to 40,000 lbs.
  • Experience operating construction equipment such as CAT, John Deere, Volvo, JLG, JCB, or similar brands.
  • A clean driving record is required.
  • Knowledge of DOT regulations regarding load securement, hours of service, oversized loads, and permits.
  • Ability to collaborate on efficient routing based on load weight and road conditions.
  • Ability to communicate professionally and calmly in high-pressure or emergency situations.
  • Proficiency with tablet-based dispatch and documentation systems.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively in a team environment.
  • Valid driver’s license and reliable transportation to get to and from work.
  • Able and willing to work long hours including day, night, and weekend shifts as needed, and work outside of normal hours.
  • Able to walk, lift, reach, stoop, stand, grasp, balance, climb, kneel, and crouch, and lift up to 50 pounds or more frequently and in all weather conditions.
  • Able to work in outside environments being subjected to weather changes, noise, vibrations, and job hazards.
  • Ability to do physical labor and other strenuous physical tasks.

Responsibilities

  • Pick up and deliver internal and rental equipment, attachments, and supplies with loads weighing up to 40,000 lbs.
  • Load and unload equipment onto the trailer, following all safety requirements to ensure all equipment and load items are properly secured.
  • Collaborate with dispatch to determine the most efficient route based on load weight, road conditions, and traffic conditions.
  • Operate multiple assorted brands of equipment including, but not limited to, CAT, John Deere, Volvo, JLG, JCB, and Extreme.
  • Follow all DOT rules and regulations regarding load securement, hours of service, oversized loads, and permits.
  • Adhere to company safety policies and utilize all required personal protective equipment (PPE) at each yard and job site.
  • Perform daily unit and trailer inspections per DOT requirements.
  • Utilize the company-provided tablet to retrieve dispatch information, load documentation, and photo documentation of all loads.
  • Promptly communicate all equipment issues or damages to the dispatcher and equipment managers so they can be resolved in a timely manner.
  • Communicate professionally with the dispatch and management team regarding any delays due to breakdowns, weather, traffic, or other emergencies, and collaborate to create resolutions to all issues.
  • Maintain the delivery truck and trailers’ appearance and mechanical condition.
  • Maintain a professional appearance and actively advocate for safety and teamwork in support of all Whitaker Construction’s programs, policies, procedures, and standards.
  • Other duties and responsibilities may be assigned by supervisors.
