About The Position

The Host position at Herons restaurant is a part-time role focused on supporting the overall day-to-day operations and long-term success of the restaurant. The primary duty is to provide polite, professional, fast, and courteous service, maintaining a high level of professionalism and composure. Hosts are expected to be polite, positive, and accommodating to all guests, remaining calm and sympathetic in any situation. This role involves accurately communicating reservation information and potential guest details to staff, and assisting wherever necessary, including bussing tables, running food, delivering drinks, and resetting tables. Teamwork and a positive attitude are essential, as the restaurant is considered the host's 'house' and guests are their 'guests'. The role requires a clear understanding and interest in the dishes and beverages served, and a commitment to maintaining the cleanliness and efficiency of the restaurant.

Requirements

  • Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace.
  • Must be willing to work a flexible schedule in order to accomplish all major responsibilities and tasks.
  • Must be a self-motivator and motivator of others.
  • Must work in a safe, prudent and organized manner.
  • Must have a good knowledge of food and preparation.
  • Must have or quickly acquire a good knowledge of wine.
  • Must be able to relate to all levels of guests and management.
  • Minimum of 1 year experience in a similar position.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks at one time.
  • Ability to consistently delight and satisfy our guest.
  • Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English, both written and oral.
  • Ability to use OpenTable computer systems and Microsoft Word.
  • High school or equivalent education required.
  • Host experience required.
  • Ability to obtain and/or maintain any government required licenses, certificates or permits.

Nice To Haves

  • Hospitality experience preferred.

  • Greet, and interact with each guest in a kind, collected, and positive manner.
  • Provide polite, professional, fast, and courteous service.
  • Maintain composure for unexpected situations.
  • Be polite and positive at all times.
  • Be accommodating to all guests.
  • Remain calm and sympathetic to guests regardless of the situation.
  • Accurately communicate with all staff members any upcoming reservations or potential guests.
  • Assist wherever necessary, which is not limited to bussing tables, running food, delivering drinks, resetting tables.
  • Run food and beverage items whenever necessary.
  • Maintain the cleanliness and efficiency of Herons restaurant.
