About The Position
John Knox Village features 7 individual dining outlets spread out over 400 acres of residential property, each with a unique menu and style of service. This position is at Places Restaurant and is part-time, 20 hours per week, with daytime shifts. The dining outlets include a cafeteria, a quick-service restaurant, full-service restaurants, and a coffee shop. Most outlets operate as scratch kitchens, with some offering cook-to-order and batch cooking. All kitchens are led by a chef. Check averages vary by outlet. All outlets offer flexible hours and both full- and part-time positions. Full-time positions are benefit-eligible. The earliest service starts at 7 am and the latest closing time is 8 pm. Servers in full-service restaurants earn a higher wage and gratuities. This role provides host/hostess and service duties in the main dining room, responsible for following instructions and carrying out assignments, and is supportive of the Village mission and values.
Requirements
- Ability to work with a large group of residents/customers.
- Beginner level knowledge of cash handling and cash register operation.
- Awareness of cost control responsibilities of the position within the Department.
- Ability to work irregular hours.
- Ability to speak in simple sentences.
- Ability to read and comprehend simple instructions, short correspondence, and memos.
- Ability to add and subtract two digit numbers and to multiply and divide with 10’s and 100’s.
- Ability to perform tasting and/or smelling.
- Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed but straight-forward written or oral instructions.
- Minimum of 12 John Knox Village Improve U training and in-service hours annually.
Responsibilities
- Greet and seat customers using appropriate seating methods to ensure proper distribution amongst servers.
- Service all take-out order requests and perform cashier responsibilities.
- Sets up and cleans the assigned dining areas.
- Handles stress well, gets along with others within the workplace, and maintains acceptable standards of conduct.
- Adheres to all safety regulations and requirements.
