About The Position

The Hospitality Intern provides analytical and project support to the hospitality valuation team across a range of asset types, from small inns to large resorts. This role is designed for students pursuing degrees in hospitality, finance, real estate, or related disciplines and offers hands-on experience in hotel real estate analysis and appraisal. The intern will gather and synthesize primary and secondary data by conducting market participant surveys, compiling information from online platforms, and maintaining the team’s comparable-property database. This role is best suited for individuals with a strong interest in real estate appraisal, a hospitality background, and a desire to build a long-term career in the valuation industry. We welcome applicants from a variety of academic backgrounds; however, students studying Hospitality, Real Estate, Business, or related fields tend to align most closely with the work. The variety of assignments keeps the work dynamic and intellectually engaging. This role is based in our Denver or Tucson office. Hybrid work may be available after onboarding, based on team needs and performance. The initial internship is during the summer and may be extended based on business need and performance. Requirements

  • Current undergraduate student
  • Major in Hospitality Management, Finance, Real Estate, Accounting, or related field
  • Strong Microsoft Excel skills, including the ability to navigate spreadsheets efficiently, edit formatting/worksheets, and efficiently enter/manipulate data
  • Strong research skills
  • Detail-oriented with strong organizational skills, including the ability to self-manage multiple projects at once
  • Professional attitude and willingness to learn
  • Strong communication, written, and organizational skills
  • Ability to work independently and as a member of a team
  • Relevant work experience in commercial real estate and/or appraisal is not required; prior exposure to real estate or hospitality a plus
  • Frequently communicate with colleagues, vendors, and market participants via telephone, email, online correspondence, and messengers.
  • Frequently conduct surveys, via telephone and email, with market participants
  • Frequently compile, interpret, and convey data from telephone surveys, email communications, and online databases
  • Frequently access, interpret, input, and analyze data from online sources
  • Frequently utilize the Microsoft Suite of applications (including Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams)
  • Reliable internet connection
  • Ability to work with privacy
  • Quiet background for making frequent phone calls

Responsibilities

  • Assist with data entry, data cleaning, and organization of hotel operating and market data
  • Learn and understand the market fundamentals of the team’s industry
  • Support analysts with market research, including individual asset research, competitive sets, and local market trends
  • Access, research, and compile data from online databases
  • Enter comparable properties into the database
  • Review and summarize property-level information, including brand standards, amenities, and renovation history
  • Conduct market and property research through market participant surveys
  • Help prepare exhibits, tables, and draft materials for appraisal and consulting reports
  • Participate in internal meetings and, where appropriate, sit in on client or management discussions
  • Complete analytical or research projects with increasing ownership over time
  • Other research, data, and organizational tasks as needed
