About The Position

Examine, diagnose, and treat hospitalized patients. Manage patients through the continuum of hospital care, seeing patients in the emergency room and following them into the critical care unit and organizing post-acute care. Orders treatments, tests, and consults with specialty physicians and primary care physician where appropriate. Requires a degree in medicine and is licensed to practice.

Requirements

  • Must have a medical degree from an accredited medical school.
  • Medical Degree (MD or DO), board certified or board eligible to be board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine.
  • Minimum two (2) years of Hospitalist experience preferred.
  • Inpatient and hospital medicine director experience preferred.
  • NYS Physician License.
  • Current DEA Registry.
  • Has successfully completed the credentialing process at the Hospital facility.
  • Position requires prolonged periods of standing, reaching, walking throughout the working day.
  • Position will be required to stoop, bend, lift, and carry items weighing up to 75 pounds.

Responsibilities

  • Responsible for the review and improvement of quality care and the care delivery process.
  • Promote a culture of safety for patients and employees through proper identification, reporting, documentation, and prevention.
  • Coordinate discharge planning with the patient, family members, and care manager/discharge planner.
  • Maintain hospital standards for a positive patient care experience and ensure that each patient receives the medically appropriate level of care.
  • Maintain compliance with organization’s policies, as well as established practices, protocols, and procedures of the position, department, and applicable professional standards. Adhere to infection-control policies and protocols, medication administration and storage procedures, and controlled substance regulations.
  • Assist in the training and development of Residents.
  • Take charge of "Code" situations, and initiates cardiopulmonary resuscitation and advanced cardiac life support as appropriate. Pronounces deaths, as requested by the attending physician.
  • Insert difficult IVs, subclavian (central) lines, and Swanz-Ganz catheters, as requested by the attending physician.
  • Unofficially interprets EKGs and chest and abdominal X-rays, as requested by the attending physician.
  • Prescreen cases requiring review by the Department of Medicine Quality Assurance Committee.
  • Other duties as assigned.
