About The Position

The Hospital Transporter is responsible for safely and effectively transferring and transporting patients from patient care areas to diagnostic/testing areas and back. This role requires effective communication with patients, families, visitors, and healthcare providers. The transporter will assist patients with restroom needs, safely transfer patients using approved devices, and clean transport equipment between uses. Additionally, the transporter will manage and redistribute equipment like stretchers and wheelchairs, replace oxygen tanks as needed, provide directions to visitors, and maintain current BLS certification. Participation in departmental meetings and continuing education is also expected.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or GED recommended.
  • Basic skills in reading, writing, and arithmetic.
  • Prior healthcare experience is not required.
  • Maintains current BLS certification.

Responsibilities

  • Transport stable, non-monitored patients from patient care areas to and from diagnostic/ testing areas (such as CT, X-ray, Angio, Hemo) and to inpatient units for admissions.
  • Effectively communicate with the patient, family, visitors, and the direct care providers.
  • Directly speak with the RN or the Healthcare Provider prior to a transport and when the patient returns to the unit.
  • Assist the patient with his/her restroom needs as necessary.
  • Safely transfer patients using a transfer device such as a patient sling, slide board, or other hospital approved transfer devices.
  • Cleans transport equipment between each patient use.
  • Transport, locate, and redistribute equipment such as stretchers, wheelchairs, Airpals, Stryker Glides, oxygen, and other necessary equipment to perform transports.
  • Replaces oxygen tanks as needed (less than 500 psi).
  • Provides directions to families and/or visitors.
  • Maintains current BLS certification.
  • Attends and participates in departmental meetings and continuing educational activities.
