About The Position

LifeShare is seeking a dependable Blood Product Distribution Technician to join our hospital services team at our Monroe donor center. The Technician will provide excellent customer service and adhering to established quality practices, the Technician helps to ensure a safe blood supply is available at healthcare centers in our community when needed for traumas, therapies and treatments. The ideal candidate is dependable, punctual and acts in a professional manner. They demonstrate a positive approach toward donors, team members and hospital staff members and have a passion for service to our community. Beginning rate of pay is $14.43/hr.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Must be dependable, punctual and have effective communication skills.
  • Must demonstrate a positive approach toward customers and other staff members, acting in a highly professional manner at all times.
  • Must be able to maintain confidentiality of donor or patient information at all times.
  • Requires 6 months of on-the-job experience and meets or exceeds all position competencies and departmental quality standards (for Level II).
  • Must have successfully completed training on use of irradiator (where applicable) (for Level II).
  • Requires 12 months of on-the-job experience and meets or exceeds all position competencies and departmental quality standards (for Level III).
  • Must be able to lift equipment, such as coolers and shipping packages, up to 40 lbs., unassisted.
  • Must be able to work with needles, scissors, blood bags, human blood and blood processing equipment.
  • Work involves potential exposure to infectious diseases from blood and blood products.
  • Requires operation of a Company vehicle for blood transport; must possess a valid driver’s license and be insurable by our commercial auto insurance carrier.

  • Must be able to train on dayshift for first 8 weeks.

Responsibilities

  • Provide excellent customer service.
  • Adhere to established quality practices.
  • Ensure a safe blood supply is available at healthcare centers.
  • Perform intermediate product management duties, including irradiating product as necessary.
  • Monitor equipment and respond to alarms and alerts; perform preventative maintenance of equipment.
  • Make decisions relative to quality control (including shipment temperature checks, discarding/destroying of unsuitable units, shipping of expired units for further manufacturing), safety issues, company policies and public relations.
  • Provide immediate guidance and direction to junior technicians.
  • Perform departmental record control responsibilities to include review, corrective action and organization.
  • Perform advanced product management duties, including release of directed units, shipping of dangerous goods, manual labeling, processing test-positive Autologous units, and receiving blood derivatives.
  • Monitor product storage equipment, audit reports, alarm activation for Datatron and other system function checks, set up RTD calibrator.
