About The Position

Mayo Clinic is seeking Pharmacy Technicians to join their expanding team. Open positions may be for first, second, or third shift, and can be full-time, part-time, or PRN. The specific role (Technician I or II) will depend on the applicant's qualifications. Pharmacy Technicians play a crucial role in assisting Pharmacists to provide optimal pharmaceutical care. This involves accurately and efficiently gathering, labeling, and distributing medications, as well as packaging, preparing, and compounding medications, including hazardous substances. They are responsible for handling and distributing controlled substances in compliance with regulations, assisting with drug diversion surveillance, training new employees, maintaining medication inventories, and billing. Effective communication using established systems and processes is essential, along with performing duties with consideration for age and ability. Technicians work under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist and cooperate with other healthcare professionals. Pharmacy Technicians III may also engage in advanced roles such as Quality Improvement, Education/Training, Inventory Management, and Research, serving as lead technicians or super users for operations and technology implementations.

Requirements

High School diploma or equivalent.
Current registration as a Pharmacy Technician or Pharmacy Intern with the Florida Board of Pharmacy.
Accredited Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT) within 12 months of hire (PTCB (preferred) or NHA).
Effectively reads, writes, speaks, and understands English.
Proven history of effectively performing technical tasks and following written / verbal instructions.
Able to apply math and calculator skills along with a working knowledge of the metric system.
Possess strong telephone and verbal communication skills.
Experience with the use of office software computer applications keyboarding.
Demonstrated ability to work in a busy environment and pay attention to detail.
Proven organizational and problem-solving skills.
Proven ability to effectively work both independently and in a team environment.
Completion of at least 6 months of applicable experience as a Pharmacy Technician (for Tech II).
Current accredited Pharmacy Technician certification (CPhT); PTCB (preferred) or NHA (for Tech II).

Nice To Haves

Completion of post-secondary education (for Tech I and Tech II).
Prior experience as a Pharmacy Technician (for Tech I).
Demonstration of leadership and team building skills (for Tech II).
Experience in teaching and / or training (for Tech II).
Copy of Florida Board Registration.
Copy of PTCB or NHA certification (if Certified Pharmacy Technician).
Copies of advanced certificates: PTCB certificates (e.g., Medication History, Hazardous Drug Management), ASHP certificates (e.g., Medication Safety, Practical Training in Compounding Sterile Preparations), or Critical Point certificates (e.g., Sterile Compounding and Hazardous Drugs, Best Practices and Compliance with USP 795 for Nonsterile Compounding).

Responsibilities

Assist Pharmacists in providing optimal pharmaceutical care to the patient.
Gather, label, and distribute medications accurately and efficiently.
Package, prepare, and safely compound medications including hazardous substances accurately and efficiently.
Handle, manage, and distribute controlled substances in compliance with regulatory requirements and department policies.
Assist with drug diversion surveillance.
Assist with training new pharmacy employees.
Assist with maintaining accurate medication inventories and billing of medications.
Effectively communicate utilizing established systems and processes.
Perform responsibilities and duties of the job in a manner that is attentive to age and ability considerations.
Perform duties within their Scope of Practice under the direct supervision of a Pharmacist.
Receive direction from their supervisor and other members of the Pharmacy Leadership team.
Work cooperatively with other Pharmacy Technicians, Pharmacists, patients, Physicians, Nurses, and other members of the health care team.
Work with regular frequency in more advanced Pharmacy Technician roles (for Tech III), which include but are not limited to: Quality Improvement, Education/ Training, Inventory Management, and Research.
Serve as lead technicians/ super users in pharmacy operations, technology implementations, quality projects, etc. (for Tech III).
