About The Position

Cardinal Health's Pharmacy Operations is responsible for the safe, efficient, and effective coordination of pharmacy operations that service acute care hospitals, hospital retail customers, ambulatory care and alternate site facilities, oncology and cardiology practices, as well as retail customers. Health System Pharmacy provides customized pharmacy program solutions to reduce costs and improve patient care quality for hospitals, health systems, and other integrated healthcare providers. This role may also involve consulting with and advising the healthcare team on prescribed medications, supplies, and related processes. The Hospital Pharmacy Technician will assist Pharmacists with the delivery of pharmacy services to ensure safe and effective patient care. Key tasks include medication delivery, sterile and non-sterile compounding, medication history documentation, and other ancillary tasks. This position will serve two facilities: Roane Medical Center and Fort Loudoun Medical Center. The schedule involves a rotating 8-hour shift during facility operating hours (6:30 am - 5:00 pm) and requires working every 4th weekend.

Requirements

  • High school degree or equivalent preferred.
  • Tennessee Pharmacy Technician certification required.
  • National pharmacy technician certification (PTCB) preferred.
  • In-patient hospital pharmacy experience preferred.
  • Flexibility in working schedule.
  • Ability to work well in a team.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Comfortable performing repetitive motions/tasks.
  • Ability to manage several tasks at the same time.

Responsibilities

  • Assists the Pharmacist in filling prescription orders, as permitted by the Tennessee Boards of Pharmacy.
  • Precise preparation of IV admixtures and oral medications for hospital patients.
  • Inputs patient data and prescription information into the pharmacy information management system.
  • Handle doctor calls, faxes and medication deliveries.
  • Organizes medications for pharmacist to dispense by profiling prescriptions; preparing labels and calculating quantities.
  • Maintains a safe and clean pharmacy by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
  • Takes inventory, places orders, checks in drugs and supplies, stocks shelves and removes out-of-date items from the inventory.
  • Communicates with all customers (patients, clinics, care-givers, physicians) in a pleasant and professional manner.
  • Other duties as assigned.
