About The Position

The Hospital/ED Paramedic will be partnered with the ED RN and Provider as a team and work under their direction performing direct patient care procedures and assisting with care in more complex situations. Duties include but are not limited to: Perform emergency patient assessment, triage, monitoring, and documentation while recognizing urgent conditions and reporting changes to the RN or provider. Provide direct patient care using proper safety, infection control, and patient privacy practices, while addressing physical, emotional, cultural, and developmental needs. Assist with emergency and acute care procedures including airway management, IV therapy, EKGs, specimen collection, splinting, wound care, catheterization, ventilator support, and emergency response protocols. Administer approved medications and treatments, including oxygen and nebulizer therapy, while maintaining competency in dosage calculations and medication administration. Support patient transport, discharge, education, and coordination of care under the direction of the ED RN and provider. Follow hospital policies, HIPAA requirements, and emergency response procedures while maintaining professional conduct and yearly competency standards.

Requirements

  • State certification as Paramedic.
  • Experience as EMT-Paramedic required.
  • BLS, ACLS, PALS Certification required.
  • Must have ability to recognize changes in patient’s behavior or condition, which might require intervention, and to report observations to the physician/APP and RN and respond appropriately.
  • Able to work cooperatively with other health team members respecting the knowledge and skills of each discipline.
  • Good verbal and written communication skills.
  • Able to organize and prioritize work.
  • Effective problem-solving skills.
  • Must relate well to patients and families in a kind and supportive manner.

Nice To Haves

  • Nationally Registered Paramedic-preferred but not required.
