About The Position

South Asheville Veterinary Emergency & Specialty (SAVES) is seeking a Hospital Director of Operations to lead our state-of-the-art hospital that blends advanced specialty medicine with genuine human kindness. In this role, you won't just manage a hospital- you will empower a collaborative team of emergency and specialty innovators dedicated to clinical excellence and a supportive culture. We are seeking a visionary and dynamic Hospital Director of Operations (HD) to lead a large, multi-specialty veterinary hospital within Ethos Veterinary Health. This leader will oversee the hospital’s day-to-day operations, ensuring the highest quality of care for animals while driving financial and operational excellence. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in matrixed organizations, a passion for veterinary medicine, and a track record of building collaborative, high-performing teams. You will play a critical role in envisioning the future, driving innovation, and engaging cross-functional teams, including support center colleagues, to foster an environment where excellence and compassion thrive. SAVES Hospital is part of the Ethos Veterinary Health (Ethos) network of hospitals, and the HD will report into Ethos Field Leadership. To be successful they will need to build strong partnerships with the local team; including the Medical Director (and Hospital Management team, JV Partners) to support clinical excellence and high-quality patient care.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree ideal.
  • 5–10+ years of senior leadership experience in veterinary hospital operations, healthcare, or retail, ideally in a multi-specialty or matrixed setting.
  • Proven ability to lead cross-functional teams, drive strategic and operational initiatives, and foster inclusive collaboration.
  • Strong business acumen with demonstrated experience successfully managing hospital financials, budgeting, and full P&L accountability.
  • Proven experience building and scaling high-performing teams, driving engagement, and supporting professional development resulting in measurable improvements to hospital financials and EBITDA.

  • Build strong, trust-based partnerships across hospital teams, support center colleagues, referring veterinarians, and community stakeholders.
  • Foster transparent communication across all levels of the hospital, aligning teams toward shared goals.
  • Balance diverse stakeholder perspectives to support inclusive, strategic decision-making.
  • Develop and lead a high-performing hospital team by investing in coaching, mentorship, and continuous learning.
  • Build a hospital culture rooted in trust, accountability, curiosity, and personal growth.
  • Identify and grow future leaders while supporting staff development at every level.
  • Lead financial operations, including budgeting, forecasting, and managing the hospital’s P&L to ensure long-term sustainability.
  • Partners intentionally with (JV Stakeholders and) Ethos Leadership to ensure alignment on hospital goals, fostering trust, transparency, and a shared understanding of performance expectations and outcomes in order to drive the execution of hospital priorities.
