About The Position

To provide compassionate religious/spiritual support to employees, students, patients, and patient family members. To counsel individuals seeking guidance and assistance.

Requirements

• Masters of Divinity from an accredited association of Theological School
• 4 units of clinical pastoral education
• Ecclesiastical endorsement required
• Certified or eligible for Chaplaincy Certification
• Must obtain certification within two years of hire
• Knowledge of philosophical systems and religions
• Knowledge of human behavior
• Verbal and written communication skills
• Active listening skills
• Compassionate interpersonal skills
• Knowledge of ethics

Nice To Haves

• One (1) year of experience as a chaplain in a hospital setting preferred

Responsibilities

• Provides counseling and other spiritual education activities for employees, students, and patients.
• Supports the end-of-life care for patients by offering pastoral support and counseling to patients and families.
• Administers religious rites or ordinances; prepares and delivers spiritual care services.
• Studies, interprets, and teaches religious laws, doctrines, and/or traditions.
• Promotes ethical behavior within UMMC and provides consultation on ethical behavior.
• Documents spiritual counseling for patients.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
