About The Position
The Hospital Aide supports the daily functions and operations of an assigned patient care unit. The role assists with patient transfers, transportation of specimens, feeding and personal care, documentation, supply tasks, and maintaining a clean and safe environment while protecting patient privacy and following infection-control procedures. The position is identified as an ED Patient Ambassador at Clear Lake, with a 12 p.m.–12 a.m. schedule.
Requirements
- High school education or equivalent, or participation in the UTMB Health System/Diversity high school trainee program.
- No experience required.
- BLS certification.
Responsibilities
- Assist with safe, prompt transfers of patients from various hospital and clinic areas.
- Transport specimens and requisitions to the appropriate areas.
- Help feed patients who need assistance eating.
- Assist with personal care, including baths, weighing, and linen and bed changes.
- Recognize obvious patient-care priorities and communicate patient needs or emergencies to appropriate staff.
- Follow policies and procedures when relieving in a supply booth or clinical area; order adequate supplies, check expiration dates, and verify charges as directed by a supervisor.
- Record and sign activities requiring documentation on appropriate records or logs.
- Maintain patient privacy and confidentiality at all times.
- Provide a clean, safe environment and perform or assist with aseptic techniques, isolation procedures, and infection-control measures.
- Adhere to internal controls established for the department.
- Perform related duties as required.
