About The Position

The Hospice Primary Nurse works under the general direction of the Hospice Clinical Supervisor, the attending physician and the Hospice Medical Director, in the provision of skilled nursing assessment, planning and care in order to maximize the comfort and health of Hospice patients and families. Expectation is for all performed duties to be in accordance with Singing River Health System procedures and policies, accreditation organization, and governing guidance and publications for health care employees.

Requirements

  • Graduate of an accredited school of Nursing.
  • Current license by the Mississippi State Board of Nursing as a Registered Nurse or extended role.
  • Must complete and maintain BCLS certification upon hire and/or transfer.
  • Must maintain annual certification requirements.
  • Must have de-escalation training completed by the end of position orientation (90 days); must have appropriate level of de-escalation training.
  • Must demonstrate keen mental faculties/assessment and decision making abilities.
  • Must demonstrate superior communication/speaking/enunciation skills to receive and give information in person and by telephone.
  • Must demonstrate strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Must possess emotional stability conducive to dealing with high stress levels.
  • Must demonstrate ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
  • Attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in complex situations is required.
  • Must have the ability to maintain collaborative and respectable working relationships throughout SRHS and other organizations.
  • Must possess superior customer service skills and professional etiquette.
  • Must possess proficient knowledge and ability to use a computer (must be keyboard proficient) and other office technology (i.e., telephone, fax, etc.), MS Outlook and Word.
  • Must be able to demonstrate appropriate clinical judgment and apply appropriate professional skills to a patient population of all ages.
  • Must have a valid driver license and satisfactory driving record, as job requires traveling throughout the SRHS service area – with the employee providing their own transportation.
  • Must have liability insurance of personal vehicle used in Hospice activity.
  • Must report any accidents that occur during working hours.
  • Must have a working knowledge of hospice regulations to ensure appropriate care of each patient.

Nice To Haves

  • Bachelors of Science in Nursing degree preferred.
  • A minimum of two (2) years’ experience as an RN within the past five (5) years preferred.
  • One (1) year experience in an acute care hospital, hospice, or home health setting preferred.

  • Supervising Hospice Health Aides assigned.
