About The Position

Mountain Valley is seeking a Hospice Chaplain to work in its Martinsville service area. The position provides spiritual care support that honors patients’ beliefs and values, supporting patients and families facing serious or terminal illness. Care is provided holistically to people of all faiths and those with no faith affiliation, as requested. The chaplain may visit patients in their homes, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and hospitals.

Requirements

• Graduate of an accredited seminary or school of theology, or appropriate certification in hospital or pastoral ministry.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to offer compassionate support to individuals in distress.
• Knowledge of diverse religious and spiritual practices and a commitment to respecting patients’ beliefs.
• Sensitivity to the emotional and psychological needs of patients and their families.
• Willingness and ability to travel to patients’ homes, skilled nursing facilities, assisted living facilities, and hospitals.

Responsibilities

• Develop spiritual plans of care for patients and families or caregivers of all faiths and non-faiths, in a holistic manner as requested.
• Visit patients and families identified for pastoral services and provide direct spiritual counsel, prayer, and ministry as appropriate.
• Maintain regular visits and communication according to patient, family, and facility needs.
• Collaborate with interdisciplinary team members and advocate for patient needs.
• Conduct or arrange funeral or memorial services as needed.
• Maintain appropriate documentation in a timely manner.
