About The Position

Roots Landscape is a premier landscape design/build firm serving the Greater Philadelphia area. We also provide comprehensive maintenance and enhancements for our client’s outdoor spaces. The Horticulturist is responsible for the professional care and management of residential and commercial gardens. This position requires an understanding of seasonal changes in the garden and the cultural requirement of plants. The Horticulturist ensures projects are completed safely, efficiently, on time, and according to company quality standards. They provide exceptional service to our clients through their expert horticultural practices and attention to detail. They ensure the outdoor space is clean, well maintained and client ready. Employment is contingent upon successful completion of a pre-employment Background Check and Drug & Alcohol screening. Roots Landscape adheres to the regulations of the DHS I-9 E-Verify Program.

Requirements

  • Excellent understanding of plant identification and plant care.
  • A minimum 4 years of experience in the green industry is preferred.
  • A valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to stand, walk, kneel, bend and lift at least 40 pounds.
  • Willing to work outdoors in all weather conditions.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain and enhance diverse garden styles with precision and care.
  • Complete all garden maintenance tasks in a timely and detailed manner including; seasonal color installation, weeding, dead-heading, and cutbacks.
  • Apply extensive knowledge of plants and plant care techniques.
  • Exercise a creative design aesthetic for seasonal containers and plantings.
  • Utilize property pruning techniques for plant health and appearance.
  • Monitor plant health regularly, identifying pests or diseases and applying treatment as needed.
  • Demonstrate familiarity with irrigation systems and the diverse watering needs for plants.
  • Plan for daily and weekly scheduling and client needs.
  • Adherence to company safety policies and applicable OSHA regulations.
  • Consistent use of proper Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Maintain clean, organized, and safe job sites.
  • Maintain tools, equipment and company vehicles in clean and proper working conditions.
  • Report any safety issues or repairs needed promptly to management.
  • Exhibit strong oral and written communication skills.
  • Serve as on-site contact for clients with a professional appearance and demeanor.
  • Address and resolve on-site challenges proactively.
  • Work as a team with an assistant, other horticulturists and managers to foster a positive work environment.
