About The Position

This position is available only to enrolled American University students. Most student positions at American University are eligible to use Federal Work Study (FWS) awards, with a few exceptions. FWS funds cannot be applied to janitorial, construction, partisan or sectarian positions. For information or questions regarding FWS funds, please contact American University's Office of Financial Aid. This position is only open to students enrolled in the AU Honors Program. The primary function of the Program Associate (PA) is to facilitate experiential learning and to design out-of-class experiences that complement the classroom learning for students in the Honors program, as well as to serve as an undergraduate TA to the faculty member. PAs are expected to attend class and hold office hours twice per week, facilitate Honors experiential labs, plan community programming in the first-year residence hall, and assist Honors Program staff with Admissions events.

Requirements

  • Must be a student in good standing in the AU Honors Program.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Ability to convey complex concepts in a clear and understandable manner.
  • Strong interpersonal skills for interacting with students, faculty, and staff.
  • Effective organizational and time management skills.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks and deadlines simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate experiential learning opportunities for first-year students in the AU Honors Program.
  • Plan community programming for first-year students on the Honors and Scholars floor in Anderson Hall.
  • Serve as a TA to the CORE 106 faculty member.
  • Attend class and hold office hours twice per week.
  • Facilitate Honors experiential labs.
  • Plan community programming in the first-year residence hall.
  • Assist Honors Program staff with Admissions events.
