About The Position

Sistema Utah partners with American Preparatory Academy to provide free music and homework assistance classes to under-resourced students. Patterned after the El Sistema movement that originated in Venezuela, the program seeks to empower students through education, music, and academic support. We are looking for a dynamic individual who is passionate about teaching to support our after-school program.

Requirements

High school diploma or equivalent required
Proficiency in writing, mathematics, and Google applications including Docs, Sheets, and Forms
Effective verbal and written communication skills
Ability to demonstrate patience and work effectively with elementary students
Ability to support students with a variety of academic needs
Strong reliability and punctuality
Effective study skills and ability to teach or reinforce study techniques

Nice To Haves

Experience working with elementary-aged students or providing academic support is preferred
Bilingual (Spanish) skills are preferred but not required

Responsibilities

Mentor elementary students in grades 2-6 with homework and academic support in most subjects
Provide assistance in an after-school classroom setting
Support students during three daily instructional periods, each approximately 40 minutes in duration
Provide guidance with effective study skills and techniques
Participate in required training prior to beginning the position
Maintain a safe, supportive, and positive learning environment
Other duties as assigned
