About The Position

Senator Joyce Fairbairn Middle School is seeking a Grade 6 Homeroom teacher to join their team at the beginning of the 2026-27 school year. The successful candidate will demonstrate a strong foundation in supporting students, have an unwavering belief that every child is a capable learner and will have the ability to teach all core subjects at the Grade 6 level. This is a 1.00 FTE interim position and is not open to current continuing contracted teachers within Lethbridge School Division. The expected start date is August 25, 2026.

Requirements

  • Must possess or be eligible to obtain an Alberta Teaching Certificate.
  • A police information check, including Vulnerable Sector Check from Police Services or an RCMP detachment that does not have any charges or convictions.
  • A satisfactory Intervention Record Check from South Region Alberta Child and Family Services.
  • Proof of photo identification (e.g., valid driver’s licence, provincial identification card, valid passport, or Nexus card). If one cannot be provided, a new card must be obtained and proof of application provided within three days of hire.
  • Documentation of a valid Social Insurance Number in the employee’s legal name. If valid Social Insurance documentation in the current legal name cannot be provided, the successful candidate will be required to obtain a new one within three days of hire.
  • Sound understanding of teaching context and contributing variables.
  • Deep understanding of subject disciplines taught and pedagogical approaches based on best practice.
  • Understanding of planning, assessment and instructional practices.
  • Understanding of classroom management strategies that contribute to a positive learning environment.
  • The ability to use technology in meaningful ways for teaching and learning.
  • Qualities of a reflective practitioner who engages in professional learning aligned with the TQS.
  • Commitment to the school community with respect to professional relationships.
  • A belief in collaborative practice and teamwork.
  • Active contribution to school and student activity, and overall ability to develop effective relationships within the school and community.

Nice To Haves

  • Previous experience teaching Physical Education will be considered an asset.
