About The Position

The HOC Program Specialist provides administrative, operational, and client-facing support to the HOC Team. This position plays an important role in the delivery of housing counseling, homebuyer education, loan processing, loan servicing, and community outreach programs. The ideal candidate is highly detail-oriented, organized, outgoing, and self-motivated, with strong communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities. You should be comfortable working with people, paperwork, spreadsheets, and the occasional mystery that needs to be solved before the end of the day. This is a position where accuracy matters, relationships matter, and having a good sense of humor definitely doesn't hurt.

Requirements

  • Outgoing, self-starter with a passion for helping underserved people and enthusiasm for affordable housing & community development.
  • Possess a strong understanding of the home purchase process, credit reporting, and personal budgeting.
  • Demonstrates outstanding of written and verbal communication skills and has the ability to work effectively and respectfully with all different types of people.
  • Must be detail-oriented with a strong degree of accuracy and comfortable managing multiple deadlines and priorities in a shifting environment.
  • Possess strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel and the ability to work confidently with spreadsheets, formulas, sorting, filtering, and basic data analysis.
  • A good sense of humor and ability to laugh when the spreadsheet has somehow acquired 47 tabs.
  • Curiosity, commitment and willingness to learn.
  • Ability to obtain HUD Housing Counseling Certification within three (3) months of hire.
  • Available for occasional nights and weekends.
  • Travel to other office locations as needed and/or outside Vermont for training opportunities.
  • Ability to travel for job performance, possession of a valid driver’s license, a good driving record, and automobile insurance per State of Vermont.

Responsibilities

  • Serves as the first customer contact for HomeOwnership Center programs, providing program overview, answering questions both in person and on the phone and delivering appropriate materials
  • Performs loan servicing activities and maintain accurate loan records including loan pool balancing & reconciliation.
  • Supports the HOC Director with loan processing and the preparation of closing documents
  • Ensures accurate input of customer information and dates in all customer relations management software systems
  • Assists with and/or facilitates and promotes Homebuyer Education and Financial Empowerment Workshops as required
  • Serves as backup Housing Counselor as needed, providing direct financial counseling services to the community, including one-on-one counseling, follow-up, and document management
  • Provides marketing and promotion activity related support to the HOC and RuralEdge
  • Attends community events to promote homeownership center programs
  • Cross trains with other HOC team members to provide continuity of services.
  • Participates in assigned activities in support of RuralEdge and HOC mission and goals
