About The Position

The homemaker provides non-medical supportive services to patients in their homes to maintain a safe, clean, and comfortable living environment. The homemaker supports patient independence and quality of life by assisting with household tasks in accordance with the patient’s plan of care and agency policies.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent preferred.
  • Prior experience in housekeeping, caregiving, or home health preferred.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work independently.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Knowledge of home management skills.
  • Ability to read and write and prepare essential correspondence for blind, illiterate or physically impaired clients.
  • Maintain strict confidentiality in compliance with HIPAA regulations.
  • Ability to stand, walk, bend and reach for extended periods.
  • Ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Ability to safely perform household cleaning tasks.

  • The Homemaker in Not Authorized to provide hands-on personal cares (bathing, dressing, toileting) unless appropriately certified (CNA/HHA).
  • The Homemaker in Not Authorized to administer medications or cut nails.
  • The Homemaker in Not Authorized to perform skilled nursing tasks.
  • The Homemaker in Not Authorized to climb on ladders, step stools or anything that can’t be reached for a standing position.
  • The Homemaker in Not Authorized to take laundry items home to finish due to infection control measures.

Responsibilities

  • Perform light housekeeping duties, including sweeping, vacuuming and mopping floors (not on hands and knees).
  • Wash inside of windows, mirrors and blinds that are within reach without climbing.
  • Dusting and general cleaning.
  • Cleaning kitchen, including counter and appliances (including oven and surface burners and refrigerator.
  • Bathrooms, to include picking up bathroom rugs (launder if needed) floors, sink, bathtub, toilet, shower and shower fixtures.
  • Remove trash and put in proper bin for pick-up.
  • Washing, drying, folding and putting away clothing and linens.
  • Prepare simple, nutritious meals as directed by the patient's care plan.
  • Assist with errands such as grocery shopping or picking up supplies, as assigned.
  • Maintain a safe and organized environment for the patient.
  • Observe and report any changes in the patient's condition, behavior, or home environment to the clinical supervisor or assigned nurse.
  • Provide support to help clients remain independent in their home and assist in performing some household tasks.
  • Follow established plan of care and agency workflow.
  • Adhere to infection control, safety, and emergency procedures.
  • Performs other duties, as assigned.
