About The Position

The purpose of this position is to support the operation of the shelter site and provide support to people experiencing homelessness who are utilizing the shelter service. The role requires an organized individual who wants to help their community while following policies and procedures.

Ability to follow and implement requests received from supervisor with little or no supervision.
Ability to adapt to change, negotiate compromise and tolerate ambiguity.
Ability to build effective relationships with others who can help with work related goals.
Ability to be sensitive in human interactions to diversity inclusiveness.
Ability to lift up to 50 pounds.

Nice To Haves

Previous experience working in a Shelter or relative experience preferred.

Responsibilities

Support the operation of the shelter site and to help meet the needs of persons experiencing homelessness who are staying at the shelter.
Setting up and breaking down the shelter site daily, including placement of mats/cots, cleaning of mats/cots, moving and inventorying shelter supplies, etc.
Assisting with the shelter intake processes, including data collection and data entry into the County’s Homeless Management Information System (HMIS).
Assisting with the coordination of transportation services to and/or from the shelter site.
Serving and distributing food to shelter guests.
Supporting the Shelter Site Lead, Shelter Director and relevant partners in shelter guest de-escalation and other client engagement efforts, as needed.
Working to create a welcome environment for all shelter guests.
