About The Position

The Homebound Teacher provides instruction for approximately one hour per day (or the amount of time determined through the IEP process) at the home (or other alternative, public, off-school site or virtual website, as may be determined) of a student who cannot attend school.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Special Education or related field required.
  • Current Colorado Department of Education Teachers Special Educator License with an endorsement in Special Education OR qualify for Alternative License and passing score on the PLACE or Praxis II is required
  • Knowledge with Google Suite and/or Microsoft Office products including Word, Excel and Outlook.
  • Effective time management and organizational skills.
  • Effective communication skills.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Effectively handle multiple demands and competing deadlines.
  • The ability to take responsibility for one’s own performance.
  • Work collaboratively with others on a team.
  • Aptitude for variety and changing expectations and a fast-paced environment.
  • Lead for racial and educational excellence and work to dismantle systems of oppression and inequity in our community, along with believing in and supporting all students so they feel seen and heard with access to high quality education.
  • Live and work with a permanent home address in Colorado while working with us.
  • Have the ability with or without accommodations to meet the physical demands of the position.

Nice To Haves

  • Prior or current experience working with Special Education children highly preferred

Responsibilities

  • Counsels students to encourage and support student achievement.
  • Observes, evaluates, reports, and records student performance, behavior, social development, and physical health.
  • Prepares lesson plans and materials according to District approved curriculum guidelines or state and local requirements.
  • Presents subject matter to students, using various teaching methods and instructional materials to meet varying needs and learning styles.
  • Instructs students individually using various teaching methods.
  • Establishes and communicates clear objectives for lessons, units, and projects.
  • Prepares, administers, assigns, and grades tests and assignments to evaluate student progress, reporting grades using District software.
  • Communicates with parents or guardians, teachers, counselors, and administrators to resolve student behavior and academic problems.
