About The Position
In collaboration with First 5 of Orange County, GLAD is expanding the reach of home visiting programs in Orange County to underserved deaf, hard of hearing, deafblind, and deaf disabled populations and to improve maternal and child health outcomes. The Parents as Teacher (PAT) model provides strength-based parental guidance and coaching in the home of the participant and includes services such as pre- and post-natal care assessment, developmental screenings, post-partum depression screening, and child development. The primary function of the Home Visitor is to serve the families to provide home visits for parenting, developmental assessments, home safety, and case management services.
Requirements
- Fluency in American Sign Language and knowledge of deaf culture are required.
- Experience working with or providing services to children and families; knowledge of infant/child development
- Demonstrated ability to perform Punctuality and reliability are a must.
- Ability to handle personal details, data and other private Must maintain the highest level of confidentiality.
- Must be detail-oriented with strong organizational and written communication Must prioritize and handle multiple tasks, sometimes with competing deadlines.
- Excellent interpersonal skills are Must maintain a cooperative relationship with co-employees, directors, employers, outside vendors, and the CEO.
- Be able to work independently, take the initiative and thrive under pressure in a fast-paced environment.
- Must have reliable transportation, a valid driver's license and current automobile insurance as required by the position.
- Selected candidate must complete and pass a background check of references, criminal background screening and drug screening.
Nice To Haves
- Bachelor’s degree in early childhood education or a related field is preferred.
Responsibilities
- Provide 8-10 home visits per week to families and “meet the family where they are”
- Provide parenting education and tailored family support in the home
- Maintain emphasis on strengthening parent-child relationships and promoting healthy early childhood development
- Assist families in identifying/accessing appropriate community resources
- Maintain and ensure the accurate completion of case files, notes, and reports
- Maintain accurate work and activity sheets, statistics, court reports/letters as required by program
- Develop effective working relations with all individuals and agencies supporting the PAT
- Maintain positive communications with all agency staff, families, and volunteers
- Participate in regular reflective supervision and continuous professional development
- Maintain high standards of quality for program services
- Other duties as assigned
