About The Position
We are seeking two Summer Student Home Support Workers to join our team through the Canada Summer Jobs program. This role provides meaningful, hands-on experience supporting individuals to live as independently as possible at home and within the community. Successful candidates will work in a person-centered environment, promoting independence, inclusion, and quality of life while gaining valuable experience in community living and support services.
Requirements
- Be between 19 and 30 years of age at the start of employment (students must be 19 due to internal funding policies)
- Be a Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or person with refugee protection status
- Be legally entitled to work in Canada
- Interest in community support, social services, or health care
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a team
- Valid Class 5 driver’s license and reliable vehicle
Responsibilities
- Support individuals in developing independence in daily living and life skills
- Assist with personal care needs such as hygiene, grooming, feeding, and mobility (including lifting and transferring where required)
- Teach and support skills such as cooking, shopping, money management, and household safety
- Facilitate recreational, social, educational, and vocational activities
- Encourage community participation and help individuals build relationships and social connections
- Follow and implement Person-Centered Plans and Behaviour Support Plans
- Assist with goal setting and contribute to program planning and evaluation
- Recognize and respond to emergency or crisis situations in accordance with established procedures
- Accompany or transport individuals to appointments, activities, and community events
- Administer medication and delegated health tasks in accordance with policies (e.g., gastrostomy feeding, suction, bowel management, where applicable)
- Maintain accurate, professional documentation and complete required reports
- Support health care plans and monitor individuals’ well-being
- Perform household duties such as cleaning, laundry, meal preparation, and yard maintenance
- Ensure health and safety standards are consistently met
- Maintain positive working relationships with team members and external partners
- Follow organizational policies, procedures, and guiding principles
