About The Position

Serve as the link between the School/Home/Community and assist students in achieving success in school. This role requires adherence to NSBSD Pedagogy and involves performing essential functions satisfactorily, with reasonable accommodations made for individuals with disabilities.

Requirements

  • Graduate from high school or a general education degree is required.
  • One to three months of related experience and/or training.
  • Speak, read, and write the Inupiaq language.
  • Read and interpret procedures, policies, and regulations, such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Effectively present information and respond to questions from supervisors, staff, and the public.
  • Add, subtract, multiply, and divide.
  • Perform these operations using units of American money and weight measurements, volume, and distance.
  • Solve practical problems and deal with a variety of non-standard situations.
  • Interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
  • Valid Class D Alaska Driver’s License
  • Lift 40 pounds.
  • Regularly required to sit, stand, walk, use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, and controls, and reach with hands and arms.
  • Occasionally required to climb or balance.
  • Must regularly lift and/or move up to 40 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

  • Inupiaq-speaking and cultural experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Facilitate communications among parents, teachers, administrators, students, and supporting agencies to ensure the success of students.
  • Interact positively with students.
  • Assist in the early recognition and prevention of educational problems.
  • Monitor student attendance and progress and make informed, timely educational decisions.
  • Refer students’ attendance and their families to appropriate community agencies and services.
  • Maintain appropriate, confidential records and provide timely reports.
  • Adhere to all District policies and regulations.
  • Support the value of education and the philosophy and mission of the District.
