About The Position

Provide skilled occupational therapy services on an intermittent basis to patients in their homes, under the supervision of an Occupational Therapist. This role involves assisting with patient care, developing rehabilitative plans, documenting progress, and educating patients and families on therapeutic programs and equipment.

Requirements

  • Graduated after successful completion of an Occupational Therapy Assistant education program accredited by ACOTE or its successor organizations.
  • Eligible to take, or successfully completed, the entry-level certification examination for Occupational Therapy Assistants developed and administered by NBCOT.
  • Must be licensed or registered by the state of Florida.
  • Must have a criminal background check.
  • Must have current CPR certification.
  • Ability to drive.
  • Ability to access patients’ homes.
  • Hearing, eyesight, and physical dexterity must be sufficient to perform a physical assessment and patient care.
  • Must be able to effectively communicate in English.

Responsibilities

  • Provide patient care services delegated by the Occupational Therapist.
  • Assist in the evaluation and development of the rehabilitative plan of care and periodic re-evaluation.
  • Participate in the preparation of clinical and daily progress notes, reviewed by the OT and submitted within 48 hours.
  • Prepare periodic summary reports.
  • Instruct the patient and family, assisting in teaching exercise programs.
  • Guide and instruct the patient in prescribed therapeutic self-care and creative activities to improve independence and functioning.
  • Assist the patient in the use of self-help devices.
  • Identify and report potential ineffective drug therapy, adverse reactions, side effects, allergies, and contraindications to the OT.
  • Observe and record activities and findings in the clinical record.
  • Report the patient's reaction to treatment and any changes in condition to the OT and physician.
  • Consult with the OT regarding the outcome of home visits and report physical findings in written form.
  • Instruct other health team personnel, including Home Health Aides, and family members regarding occupational therapy.
  • Attend rehabilitation department staff meetings and case conferences.
  • Instruct patient in the care and use of wheelchairs, braces, splints, and prosthetic and orthotic devices.
  • Participate with staff, patients, and physicians in discharge activities.
  • Assist the Occupational Therapist in completing the Occupational Therapy Discharge Summary.
  • Confirm weekly scheduling of visits with the Supervisor/Clinical Manager.
  • Assume responsibility for self-development through educational programs, workshops, conferences, and research.
  • Assume other duties deemed appropriate and necessary by the OT.
