About The Position

The Home Health Director of Patient Care Services (DPCS) is responsible for developing, planning, organizing, and directing patient care services in accordance with federal and state regulations, accrediting bodies, and recognized standards of care. This role involves maintaining adequate staffing levels to meet patient needs, supporting a culture of safety and quality, and directing Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities. The DPCS also assists in financial target preparation and budget management, contributes to staff retention through effective hiring and training, and establishes criteria for patient admission and discharge. The position requires a working knowledge of Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payer requirements, as well as applicable state and federal regulations. Collaboration with the Executive Director is key to ensuring high-quality patient care, efficient operations, business development, and financial stewardship. The role involves communication and coordination with various stakeholders, including physician offices, payers, patients/families, and community resources. The DPCS must maintain up-to-date clinical knowledge and facilitate the implementation of agency policies and procedures. They will also set strategic and operational goals for the branch and may act as an alternate for the Executive Director/Administrator in their absence.

Requirements

  • Licensed physician, physical therapist, speech language pathologist, occupational therapist, or registered nurse.
  • Registered Nurse with a Bachelor’s Degree (preferred) in Nursing from an accredited program and current license from the State Board of Nursing; or Therapist with a degree from an accredited program and current license from the corresponding therapy board.
  • Three (3) years nursing/therapy experience.
  • At least one (1) year supervisory and administrative experience.

Nice To Haves

  • Experience in community health, home health, or hospice services in the past five (5) years preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Developing, planning, organizing, and directing patient care services in accordance with federal and state regulations, accrediting bodies, and recognized standards of care.
  • Maintaining staffing levels as needed to provide patient care to meet changing demands in patient acuity and admission volumes, ensuring schedules provide proper coverage.
  • Supporting and maintaining a culture of safety and quality.
  • Directing and supporting Quality Assurance/Performance Improvement (QAPI) activities, including evaluation, planning, and implementation.
  • Assisting in preparing and meeting financial targets set by the Agency’s annual budget and contributing to ongoing budget management.
  • Aiding in the Agency’s goal of retaining quality staff by appropriately hiring, orienting, training, evaluating, and disciplining staff.
  • Assisting in establishing criteria for the admission and discharge of patients.
  • Maintaining a working knowledge of current Medicare, Medicaid, and third-party payer requirements for home health reimbursement and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Working closely and communicating with Executive Director to ensure highest quality of care to patients, efficient operations, business development, and financial stewardship.
  • Communicating and coordinating with physician’s offices, payers, patients/families, outpatient services and inpatient coordinators, community resources, and agencies.
  • Maintaining up-to-date clinical knowledge of methods, products, trends, research, etc., and communicating this information to staff.
  • Supporting and facilitating implementation of existing or changes to Agency’s policies, regulations, process, or procedures.
  • Consulting with VSO (Vancouver Service Office) and internal/external stakeholders as needed when developing solutions or addressing issues.
  • Setting strategic and operational goals for branch, and assisting in gathering data and developing and implementing action plans.
  • Acting as an alternate in the Executive Director/Administrator’s absence as directed.
  • Implementing policies and procedures; goals and objectives; and standards of care relevant to patient services and staff functions.
