About The Position

Bristol Hospice is looking for compassionate Certified Nursing Assistants (CNAs) and Home Health Aides (HHAs) who have a heart for patients and families. This role plays a critical part in the Interdisciplinary Group Team, working under the supervision of a Registered Nurse to meet patients' personal needs and promote comfort. Bristol Hospice is a nationwide leader in hospice services, dedicated to providing care with compassion, respect, and dignity.

Requirements

• Certification of Nursing Assistant or Home Health Aide required per state regulations.
• Must have completed a minimum of 75 hours of classroom and supervised practical training.
• Licensed driver with automobile that is insured in accordance with organization/state requirements and is in good working order.
• Willingness to submit to a criminal background check prior to hire and annually thereafter.
• Current CPR certification.

Nice To Haves

• One (1) year experience as Aide in community health/hospice or medical/surgical experience.
• Ability to read and follow written instructions.
• An Understanding of hospice philosophy and comfortable providing specialized care to the terminally ill.
• Ability to work autonomously with little direct supervision.
• Successfully demonstrate tact, patience and good personal hygiene.
• Ability to communicate effectively.
• Strong organizational skills.
• Understanding of plan of care documentation.
• Flexible in work hours to ensure the patients receive care as provided in the plan of care.
• Ability to empathize with the needs of the ill, injured, frail and impaired.
• Comfortable addressing issues of death/dying.
• Calm demeanor when entering the patients home.

Responsibilities

• Spend quality one on one time with patients and their families to support everyday needs.
• Care for hospice patients by providing paths, back rubs, oral hygiene, shampoos, and changing bed linen as often as needed.
• Provide bedtime care including personal hygiene regimens as required.
• Provide aroma therapy and gentle touch.
• Provide lotion rubs to hands and feet.
• Perform personal care needs after given a patient's assignment and attending to his/her requests promptly. If unable to perform a certain task, report to the Case Manager immediately.
• Provide patient and family with positive communication techniques, within realm of ethical and respectful care, including confidentiality.
• Help patients dress and undress.
• Record important health information including temperature, pulse, respiration, and blood pressure.
• Assess and report patient condition and any significant changes to the Case Manager.
• Assist patients with ambulation and exercise.
• Respect patient and family/caregiver environment and patient's personal needs.
• Provide respite for patient's family/caregiver when on-site, as appropriate.
• Maintain patient's living area is clean and orderly, as assigned.
• Adhere to the organization's documentation and care procedures and standards of personal and professional conduct.
• Participate in quality assessment performance improvement teams and activities.
• All other duties as assigned.
