About The Position

Operates a truck with a gross vehicle weight over 26,000 pounds and under 32,000 pounds on public roads to deliver merchandise. Prepares and packs merchandise, delivers it to customers’ homes, and installs it. This is a full-time federal employee position with benefits.

Requirements

• Must have a Hawaii CDL B license, as stated in the job summary.
• Must be able to pass a motor vehicle check and pre-employment DOT drug test.
• One year of experience providing the knowledge and ability to operate a large vehicle, or an allowable education substitution.
• Three years of experience operating a large vehicle with a gross vehicle weight between 26,000 and 32,000 pounds.
• Possess a valid state commercial driver’s license (CDL) with a Class A endorsement for tractor trailers and combination vehicles, as stated under specialized experience.
• Meet Department of Transportation physical and medical requirements.
• Successfully complete a pre-employment drug test; failure to report to the scheduled test appointment rescinds a tentative offer. Incumbents in drug-testing-designated positions are subject to random testing.
• Be able to lift and carry items over 100 pounds with assistance.

Responsibilities

• Operate a motor vehicle with a gross vehicle weight over 26,000 and under 32,000 pounds to pick up and deliver home furnishings and related items to customers’ homes.
• Complete trip tickets and driver accident reports.
• Complete pre-trip and post-trip inspection reports and perform preventive maintenance on the assigned vehicle or vehicle used for the day’s work.
• Load and unload vehicles using equipment such as handcarts, pallet jacks, and forklifts, taking care to prevent damage.
• Install merchandise in customers’ homes.
• Assemble furniture before delivery or in customers’ homes using common hand tools.
• Treat customers with tact and courtesy.
• Repair minor furniture damage using materials such as stain and glue, as needed.
• Perform warehousing duties related to receipt, storage, and issue of resale merchandise, as needed.
• Assist in moving merchandise in the showroom for display, as needed.
• Work with another associate who may assist with deliveries.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.
