About The Position

As a personal caregiver, you will play a critical role in the success of Senior Helpers as you will be the face of our organization on a daily basis for our clients. We are looking for team members that value the dignity of all people and are passionate about helping others age in place and live their best lives possible. You will provide professional care services to help our clients maintain their independence and to assist them with the activities of daily living and assist them with household and family support services. This role is considered an hourly, non-exempt position, with a starting hourly rate of $15/hour based on applicable skills and experience. We are currently looking primarily for overnight shifts, full and part-time, throughout western and northern Kent County, eastern Ottawa County, and western Ionia county.

Requirements

  • Ability to treat clients with dignity and respect.
  • Ability to read, write, and speak English at an average adult level.
  • Ability to successfully complete Personal Care Services training and skills assessment
  • Ability to drive to work and have a vehicle available during assignments.
  • Must have flexibility with schedule and be able to work various shifts and days
  • Ability to be flexible and adapt to new situations
  • Demonstrate tact, patience, and good hygiene
  • Must be 18 years of age or older
  • Authorized to work in the United States
  • Complete any required health screenings as required
  • Valid driver’s license with no serious driving violations
  • Successful completion of a criminal background check and drug screening prior to employment with Senior Helpers.
  • Proof of passing first aid/CPR training within 3 months of employment

Responsibilities

  • Companionship & conversation

  • Apparel selection (i.e. laying out clothes)
  • Meal planning & preparation
  • Laundry & linen changing
  • Medication reminders
  • Transportation using client’s vehicle
  • Ambulation of client
  • Assistance with daily living activities (personal hygiene, dressing, toileting, eating, etc.)
  • Walking assistance
  • Assist client to and from bed
  • Monitor Alzheimer’s & Dementia client
  • Prepare sleeping area at night
  • Assist client as needed during the course of the night with wakings, bathroom usage, etc.
  • Document activities in the Care Plan software system (if applicable).
  • Record shift tasks and services performed in the Care Plan system. Review with client and/or family members if appropriate.
  • Report any significant client changes in the Care Plan software and report it to the office immediately.
  • Follow all policies and procedures as outlines in the Senior Helpers Employee Handbook and Training Manual.
