About The Position

The Home Care Aide is responsible for providing non-medical personal care, supervision, assistance, and companionship. This role also involves maintaining a safe and clean environment for clients who require supervision due to advanced age, physical disabilities, mental deficiencies, or other health-related conditions. Aveanna Healthcare is seeking to add a Home Care Aide to their dynamic team.

Requirements

  • Must be able to speak, write, read and understand English.
  • Occasional lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling of 25 pounds.
  • Prolonged sitting, walking, standing, bending, kneeling, reaching, twisting.
  • Must be able to sit and climb stairs.
  • Must have visual and hearing acuity.
  • Must have strong sense of smell and touch.
  • Must be able to function in a wide variety of environments which may involve exposure to allergens and other various conditions.
  • Must be able to work a 4-8 hour shift.

Responsibilities

  • Provides hands-on and/or stand-by assistance to ensure that client transfers and ambulates safely, including assistance with ambulation aids like walkers, wheelchairs, gait belts, and Hoyer lifts.
  • Provides hands-on and/or stand-by assistance with bathing, showering, and other grooming activities, including bed baths/sponge baths when necessary.
  • Follows nutritional and meal planning guidelines to assist with the preparation and serving of meals and snacks to ensure proper nutritional intake.
  • Provides hands-on and/or stand-by assistance with changes of client’s clothing as needed.
  • Assists clients with toileting, which may include assisting on/off the toilet or commode, assisting with urinal or bedpan use, emptying catheter or colostomy bags, changing diapers/briefs, and ensuring client cleanliness.
  • Provides oral medication reminders (Note: caregivers are not permitted to administer medication).
  • Performs light housekeeping duties to maintain a safe and clean environment, including laundering client's clothing, bed sheets, linens, and towels; cleaning and disinfecting bathrooms; maintaining kitchen cleanliness by disposing of expired food, washing dishes, and cleaning surfaces (excluding oven cleaning); and maintaining tidiness of client’s bedroom and living areas.
  • Engages clients in appropriate conversations, maintaining professional boundaries by avoiding personal disclosures and discussions about the client's family.
  • Takes clients on walks near their home.
  • Entertains clients by reading, playing memory games, or completing puzzles.
  • Assists with Range of Motion exercises as requested.
  • Complies with all state laws and agency policies regarding the mandated reporting of suspected child, dependent adult, and elder abuse, and domestic violence.
  • Complies with agency policies related to privacy and confidentiality, including HIPAA laws.
  • Observes safety guidelines as outlined in the Employee Safety Manual.
  • Reports any unusual occurrences in the client's home or changes in the client's condition to a supervisor immediately.
  • Arrives promptly for and completes all assigned shifts, notifying a supervisor as soon as possible if a client requests a schedule change.
