About The Position

The Home Assessment Team Member serves as the primary engagement asset to increase awareness and motivate residents to action to better plan, prepare and mitigate for wildfire. The primary role of Home Assessors is to engage with residents and communities to complete individual home and community level wildfire assessments. Home Assessors serve as a technical resource for residents, community organizations, other departments, and partner wildfire professionals. Home Assessors offer guidance for prioritizing mitigation strategies to reduce potential home ignition and increase wildfire resilience.

Requirements

  • NFPA Wildfire Mitigation Specialist Certification required within 2-year of hire
  • GED, High School Diploma
  • Minimum one year Work Experience
  • Applicants must not have engaged in illicit drug use, excluding marijuana, within the past three years.

Responsibilities

  • Engages and educates residents and communities on wildfire mitigation and preparedness strategies to improve wildfire resilience in the built environment.
  • Plans, prepares, and coordinates individual home and community wildfire assessments.
  • Conveys accurate wildfire risk and mitigation guidance in different wildland fuel types across Jefferson County.
  • Engages and motivates communities to encourage resident participation in parcel-level wildfire risk assessments.
  • Utilizes assessment technology and supporting preparedness materials to deliver a comprehensive parcel level risk assessment report.
  • Identifies, conveys, and prioritizes methods and options for home hardening and vegetation management strategies to prevent and reduce structural ignition.
  • Provides technical guidance and options for home hardening, creating defensible space, and fire-resistant landscaping techniques.
  • Guides residents and communities towards related funding sources as appropriate.
  • Educates residents and communities on national, regional, and local level community centered programs such as Firewise USA®, Fire Adapted Communities (FAC) and FACO Neighborhood Ambassador.
  • Assists with the development, preparation, and delivery of educational materials and presentations to homeowner and community groups.
  • Other duties as assigned.
