About The Position

Pratt & Whitney is seeking a Hollow Fan Blade Inspector for the 2nd Shift. This role involves performing dimensional and visual inspections on parts, tools, and equipment using standardized methods and techniques. The inspector will accept or reject material based on findings, work from written procedures and drawings, and utilize various measuring instruments, including automated machines. The position requires performing mathematical computations, following in-line checks, ensuring operation sheets are followed, and arranging for equipment repair or replacement. Routine servicing of equipment and assisting with specialized inspection processes are also part of the role. Difficulties are to be referred to a leader or supervisor. Tasks not specifically listed may be assigned to support department objectives and develop individual skills.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED.
  • Ability to make arithmetical calculations involving decimals, fractions, and angles.
  • Ability to apply substitution of numbers in simple formulas.
  • One-year relevant experience working from drawings.
  • One-year relevant experience using precision measuring equipment such as Vernier calipers, height gages, indicators, size blocks, and sine bars.
  • U.S. citizenship is required.

  • Ability to interface directly with shop floor operators and inspection personnel.
  • Knowledge/experience with quality systems and standards such as AS9100.
  • Proficient in the use of continuous improvement tools, such as robust root cause analysis (RRCA) and principles of lean manufacturing.
  • ASQ - CQE a plus.
  • In compliance with the collective bargaining agreement, priority consideration is given to candidates who are INTERNAL (and recall) to the Pratt & Whitney IAM Bargaining Unit members of District Lodge 26 and Affiliated Locals 700 and 1746 (Connecticut Operations).

Responsibilities

  • Perform dimensional and visual inspections following standardized methods and established techniques.
  • Verify accuracy of parts, tools, gages, or other equipment using surface plate work or standard measuring techniques.
  • Accept or reject material based on findings.
  • Work from applicable written inspection procedures, drawings, and pertinent instructions.
  • Plan and perform dimensional and visual inspection on parts, tools, gages, and other equipment.
  • Refer material for rework or quality review.
  • Use a variety of fixed and variable measuring instruments, including automated measuring machines with well-defined program instructions, to check dimensions and record results.
  • Perform necessary mathematical computations to determine the extent of nonconformance and complete appropriate paperwork.
  • Follow proper procedures to perform in-line checks and verification of dimensions.
  • Make sure that operation sheets are being followed.
  • Recognize the need for and arrange for repair or replacement of equipment used in performing the work.
  • Perform routine servicing throughout the assigned area following specified procedures and written instructions, such as an Inspector's Check List, for upkeep and to assure equipment operates properly.
  • Assist others responsible for specialized inspection processes (e.g., Statistical Process Control, quality assurance programs).
  • Investigate unusual non-changed inspection sequences and other specialized assignments within the scope and skill level of the job description.
  • Refer difficulties to the leader/supervisor.
  • May be assigned to carry out tasks not specifically listed, within the scope and skill level of this job description, in support of department objectives and to develop individual skills.
