About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnologist to join their team in Lakewood, CO. This is a PRN/Casual position, meaning hours will be "as needed" and start/end times can vary. The role involves processing human tissue and body fluid specimens for microscopic examination, performing technical duties for histopathological slides, and preparing slides through routine and special staining procedures. The Histotechnologist will also be responsible for orienting and embedding specimens, preparing stains and reagents, reporting accurate test results, operating and maintaining instruments, and performing equipment maintenance and quality control procedures. Adherence to laboratory quality control policies, specimen handling procedures, and corrective actions for any test performance issues is crucial.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Histology OR a Bachelor’s degree in a Chemical or Biological science, Histology, Clinical Laboratory Science or Medical Technology with 1 or more years of histology experience
  • Able to pass a standardized color blindness test

Nice To Haves

  • Current or prior Labcorp experience
  • Histology and/or ASCP certifications
  • Familiarity with routine histology procedures and equipment
  • Immunohistochemistry experience
  • Comfortability embedding both large and small specimens
  • Ability to accurately read all labels and documents
  • Highly organized with a strong attention to detail
  • Experience working in a high volume laboratory environment
  • Familiarity with laboratory SOPs and safety protocols

Responsibilities

  • Process human tissue and body fluid specimens in preparation for microscopic exam
  • Perform technical duties related to the production of histopathological slides of surgical specimens
  • Section the embedded tissue, using a microtome and mount the section properly on a microscope slide
  • Process mounted sections through routine and special staining procedures
  • Properly orient and embed surgical tissue specimens
  • Prepare the stains and reagents needed for special procedures
  • Report accurate and timely test results in order to deliver quality patient care
  • Operate and maintain manual and automated instruments
  • Perform and document equipment maintenance as needed
  • Record equipment log data in an accurate and timely manner
  • Perform and document preventive maintenance and quality control procedures
  • Adhere to the laboratory's quality control policies
  • Follow the laboratory's procedures for specimen handling and processing, analysis and reporting
  • Document problems that may affect test performance and perform corrective actions when needed
