This position performs frozen section preparations, routine stains, special stains, and immune histochemical stains. The role involves recognizing deviations from expected results and taking appropriate actions. Responsibilities include assisting with autopsies, preparing and organizing tissue specimens, and preparing specimens for external laboratory testing. The role also requires storing or disposing of prepared specimens, slides, and blocks neatly and retrievably, and completing daily procedures with accuracy. The work environment is a laboratory with exposure to chemicals, pathogens, and patient blood and body fluids. Moderate lifting, pulling, pushing, and carrying are involved, with the ability to lift up to 25 pounds and occasionally more with assistance. Frequent walking, standing, stooping, and reaching are required, as is sitting with computer use for extended periods.
