About The Position

Labcorp is seeking a Histotechnologist I to join their team in Torrance, CA. This role involves utilizing knowledge of histology samples for storage and accessioning, performing routine decalcification, processing, embedding, microtomy, and re-embedding of human tissue specimens. The Histotechnologist will also perform routine and special stains, advanced staining assays, and slide scanning according to SOPs and regulatory requirements. Responsibilities include handling special handling specimens, generating specialized labels, resolving pending issues, preparing and maintaining workstations and instruments, calibrating instruments, documenting quality control, and monitoring reagents and supplies. Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Chemical or Biological science, Clinical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology or a non-traditional Bachelor’s degree that meets local regulatory (CLIA & State) requirements
One year of clinical histology laboratory testing experience
HTL or HT ASCP licensing

One year Immunohistochemistry testing, sectioning, and embedding experience

Requires theoretical and practical knowledge of histology and processing of human tissue specimens, including handling and storage of histology samples.
Candidate must have the knowledge of molecular histology and techniques, including immunohistochemistry and FISH.
Candidate must be familiar with labeling and accessioning procedures and tracking of paraffin tissue blocks and slides.

Responsibilities

Utilize knowledge and experience with histology samples to maintain proper storage conditions and facilitate accessioning of blocks and slides (stained and unstained).
Routine decalcification, processing, embedding, microtomy and re-embedding of human tissue specimens from patients enrolled in clinical trials.
Perform routine, special stains, and advanced staining assays according to SOPs, protocols, and in line with global and regional regulatory requirements.
Perform slide scanning as required and according to protocols.
Ensure that Special Handling specimens are picked up from the appropriate area, sorted, accessioned, pre-scanned and registered into the appropriate temperature bins in a timely fashion.
Generation and application of specialized labels to include aliquot and/or mini labels with client specific elements.
Resolve pendings. Retrieve and check specimens against pending list. Document specimen discrepancies. Notify laboratory management when specimen discrepancies are not resolved.
Prepare workstation, instrumentation and maintenance on instruments and/or equipment daily, weekly, monthly, quarterly and annually. Ability to adequately maintain accurate records and both adhere to Standard Operating Procedures.
Calibrate instruments, verification of temperature, and logging of data as required.
Ensure that maintenance is performed and documented according to SOP.
Perform basic instrument and/or equipment troubleshooting.
Document corrective actions for unusual occurrences.
Notify management when an instrument and/or equipment does not meet specifications.
Ability to use different application software.
Document quality control results.
Perform proficiency testing survey as patient specimens.
Order, receive, open and place in service all reagents/material according to SOPs.
Document implementation of new reagents/material according to SOPs.
Perform lot-to-lot comparison according to SOPS.
Perform inventory and checks of reagents/material.
Adheres to all company policies and procedures and performs all departmental and interdepartmental SOP’s as written.
Adheres to safety and occupational health policies and standards.
