About The Position

Prepares surgical and autopsy specimens for gross and microscopic examination. Assists pathologists with special procedures.

Requirements

• Histotechnologist, HTL(ASCP) or Histotechnician, HT (ASCP) certifications required or must be eligible to sit for the exam. ASCP certification must be obtained within 1 year of hire

Nice To Haves

• IHC experience strongly preferred

Responsibilities

• Prepares and processes tissue samples for routine histologic techniques
• Routine techniques include: Fixation, processing, embedding, microtomy and staining
• Assists pathologists with surgical and frozen specimens
• Performs IHC, Special Stains
• Operates and troubleshoots departmental automation
• Assists in maintaining inventory at appropriate levels
• Accessions specimen upon arrival in Histology laboratory
• Promotes a clean and safe environment of care, utilizing the SAFE error prevention habits
• Provides the highest standard of privacy and confidentiality in matters involving patients, coworkers, and the hospital by abiding by the Standards of Conduct
• Other duties as assigned that pertain to proper functioning of the histology lab
