About The Position

As our Histology Technician, you will help Pathologists and Pathology Residents prepare patient samples for examination and diagnosis so they can accurately identify disease states and other abnormalities. Every day you will receive, accession, and prepare tissues and other biological materials using accepted histological techniques. You will be expected to perform proper labeling, fixation, embedding, microtomy, staining, and coverslipping, as well as prepare and evaluate necessary stains and solutions. To be successful in this role, you must be proficient in various histological techniques, possess a strong understanding of quality control and preventative maintenance for laboratory instruments, and consistently adhere to CAP and regulatory guidelines for patient safety.

Requirements

  • Successful completion of an accredited Histotechnician program.
  • High School diploma and at least 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) hours of credit from a college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years in all of the following areas: fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing, and staining.
  • Associate degree from a college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology laboratory within the last 5 years in all of the following areas: fixation, embedding, microtomy, processing, and staining.
  • High School diploma and ten or more years of experience in all areas of routine histology.
  • Registered or registry eligible as a Histotechnician, HT(ASCP).
  • Fine motor coordination.
  • Good visual acuity including color discrimination.
  • Working knowledge of basic chemistry.
  • Attention to detail.
