About The Position

Essentia Health is seeking a Histotechnician to join their team at St. Mary's Medical Center in Duluth, MN. This role involves processing and preparing pathology and cytology specimens for interpretation by pathologists and cytotechnologists. Duties include performing routine and special staining procedures, IHC and ISH, and Mohs and routine frozen sections. The position also requires problem-solving, participation in Quality Assurance and Quality Control monitoring, and instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.

Requirements

Graduate of NAACLS accredited Histotechnician program OR Successful completion of 60 semester hours (90 quarter hours) of academic credit from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND one year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical, veterinary, industry or research) laboratory in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory within the last 5 years OR An associate degree from a regionally accredited college/university, with a combination of 12 semester hours (18 quarter hours) of biology and chemistry (must include credit hours in both), AND 1 year full time acceptable experience in a histopathology (clinical, veterinary, industry or research) laboratory in the U.S., Canada or an accredited laboratory within the last 5 years.
ASCP Certification as Histotechnician (HT) or equivalent.

Responsibilities

Process and prepare pathology and cytology specimens for pathologist and cytotechnologist interpretation.
Perform routine and special staining procedures.
Perform IHC and ISH.
Perform Mohs and routine frozen sections as required for diagnosis, treatment, and management of pathologic conditions on patients of all ages.
Problem solving.
Participation in Quality Assurance.
Quality Control monitoring.
Instrument maintenance and troubleshooting.
