About The Position

The Histotechnician II will contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients by accurately processing surgical pathology specimens. This position may involve travel between the Scottsdale and Phoenix campuses. Furthermore, the Histotechnician II will perform high volume automated immunohistochemical (IHC) staining; make up reagents, antibody dilutions; assist in IHC and special stain procedure development; record QA information; and train Histotech Is in IHC. Additional responsibilities include procuring control tissue material and monitoring control slide supplies as well as QC and validate slide quality and stain efficacy. The individual must demonstrate excellent troubleshooting skills as well as knowledge of the principles of growth and development of the life span. The ability to assess data reflective of the patient's age-specific needs is also required. Effective communication skills and ability to multitask are essential. The role may also involve handling chemicals and/or reagents including chemical hazardous waste materials.

Responsibilities

  • Contribute to the diagnosis, treatment and care of patients by accurately processing surgical pathology specimens
  • Processing, embedding and microtomy of all surgical tissues
  • Cryotomy and frozen section staining
  • Routine H&E and special staining
  • High complexity testing such as immunohistochemistry
  • Gross examination/tissue processing of surgical biopsies
  • Equipment maintenance and record retention
  • Training staff
  • Perform high volume automated immunohistochemical (IHC) staining
  • Make up reagents, antibody dilutions
  • Assist in IHC and special stain procedure development
  • Record QA information
  • Train Histotech Is in IHC
  • Procuring control tissue material and monitoring control slide supplies
  • QC and validate slide quality and stain efficacy
  • Handling chemicals and/or reagents including chemical hazardous waste materials
