About The Position

The UAMS Department of Pathology is seeking a career driven HT-eligible individual to join their team. This motivated individual will bring value to the pathology grossing department. As a leading member of the team, the Histotechnician will work closely with Pathology residents and Pathologists to aid in tissue processing in the lab. The lab processes specimens ranging from biopsies to large complex organs.

Requirements

High School Diploma with HT (ASCP) certification, OR 60 semester hours with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology AND chemistry, OR an associate degree with a combination of 12 semester hours in biology and chemistry within or in addition to associate degree.
One year to obtain ASCP HT certification after completion of 12 consecutive months of full-time on the job training in a histopathology laboratory.
Proof of legal authority to work in the United States on the first day of employment.

Nice To Haves

1 year (12 consecutive months) of full-time clinical experience in histopathology laboratory within the last five years OR 1 year (12 consecutive months) of full time veterinary, industry or research experience in histopathology laboratory.
Certified as HT(ASCP) or HTL(ASCP)

Responsibilities

Assesses specimen and order acceptability according to departmental policies and procedures.
Performs and assists with specimen and frozen section preparation.
Dictates gross descriptions of specimens.
Performs and documents preventative maintenance on machines.
Performs troubleshooting on laboratory equipment.
Performs computer functions as required.
Is capable of accessioning cases as needed.
Assists with autopsies at UAMS/ACH.
Participates in the training of new employees and residents as needed.
Other duties as assigned.
