About The Position

Surgical Dermatology Group, an AQUA Dermatology portfolio practice, is one of the largest and most comprehensive full-service skin care providers in the Southeast. It offers medical, surgical, and cosmetic dermatology, plastic surgery, vein care, and radiation oncology. This position will work with an assigned doctor during Mohs procedures. Duties include Mohs histology procedures, tracking of all submitted Mohs specimens for processing and diagnosis, and the necessary recording of Quality Assurance and Quality Control for the Mohs Lab.

Requirements

GED/High School Diploma
Familiarity with common medical terminology
Excellent oral communication skills; communicates effectively.
Must be able to work well independently but ask for help when needed, analyze and interpret information, and interact and decipher information telephonically and electronically.

Nice To Haves

Experience in a CLIA-certified laboratory setting
1-2 years of experience in skin pathology or as a histo-tech
Bilingual

Responsibilities

Specimen handling, storage preservation, and identification; freezing tissue and cutting frozen sections with a microtome; staining and placing tissue on slides; and prepping reagents.
Disposal of stains and the upkeep of the work area.
Keeping equipment operational by following operating instructions and troubleshooting breakdowns.
Updating OSHA and CLIA records.
Maintaining patient identification.
Documenting in EMR as appropriate.
Troubleshooting issues with fellow technicians and resolving any problems by examining and evaluating data, and selecting appropriate corrective steps.
Conforming to all applicable HIPAA and safety guidelines.
Other duties as assigned.
