About The Position

Optima Dermatology is recruiting an experienced Full Time Histotechnologist or Histotechnician to join our growing Dermatology and Medical Aesthetics group in our Pathology Laboratory based in Portsmouth, NH. The position involves the preparation of dermatology samples for pathology evaluation, ensuring operational compliance with laboratory SOPs and Quality Management Systems, and adhering to all local, federal, and CLIA regulations. The role requires exercising laboratory safety precautions, continuously monitoring and evaluating histology processes, and providing hands-on backup support for all histology areas. Advanced procedures such as special stains and/or IHC, and potentially Mohs and frozen sectioning, are part of the responsibilities. The Histotech may also perform duties of a technical assistant when required.

Requirements

  • Bachelor of Science or associate degree in a chemical or biological science or medical laboratory technology, obtained from an accredited institution and HTL (ASCP), HT (ASCP), CLS (ASCP), MT (ASCP) certification is required.
  • Two years of related laboratory experience as a technician or technologist, preferably in a physician practice or ambulatory environment.

Nice To Haves

  • Immunohistochemistry experience preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Preparation of dermatology samples for pathology evaluation, including accessioning, grossing, fixation, processing, embedding, sectioning, staining and specialized routine stains and Immunohistochemistry staining techniques
  • Ensure operational compliance with the laboratory’s SOPs and Quality Management Systems.
  • Ensure compliance with all local, federal and CLIA regulations. Maintain appropriate standards to meet all licensing and regulatory requirements and uphold company policies and integrity.
  • Exercise all laboratory safety precautions/procedures and adhere to lab procedures as stated in procedure manuals.
  • Continuously monitor and evaluate histology processes and protocols, making changes as needed to ensure optimal quality, productivity, and consistency.
  • Provide hands-on backup support for all areas of histology when staff is needed.
  • Participates in all equipment QC including daily measurements, equipment maintenance, hazardous and biohazardous waste management as required.
  • Performs advanced procedures such as special stains and/or IHC including quality control of stains.
  • Demonstrates technical ability for special procedures such as Mohs and frozen sectioning if required.
  • When required, perform the duties of the technical assistant.
