About The Position

Wayside Youth & Family Support Network is hiring for a creative and supportive individual to work in our Wayside Academy! We provide a supportive culture that is team-focused and places value on healthy work dynamics. The History Teacher will implement curricula according to MA State Curriculum Frameworks and Common Core Standards in a Chapter 766 approved school for students in grades 6-12. This role is responsible for providing challenging, motivating and relevant learning experiences in a 220-day setting. The teacher will teach classes using various methods and materials to suit topic, IEP and/or learning style, and employ differentiated instructional strategies to meet the needs of all students, including integrating technology into lesson planning. A key aspect of this role is to provide a learning environment that is physically safe and intellectually open and in keeping with special education best practices, while modeling the school’s academic and social expectations. The position requires maintaining first aid, CPR and TCI certification through provided trainings and keeping in compliance with program and agency policies, standards and protocols. The teacher will deliver structured lessons and activities for assigned class periods for each group/student in accordance with their current IEP, provide individualized intervention and accommodation when necessary, and participate in assessment practices in regards to the Academy's IAP program. Assisting in and/or developing IEPs as appropriate, participating in teacher and staff meetings, and establishing and maintaining open communication with parents and guardians are also key responsibilities. The role involves completing all associated documentation regarding student progress and grading, and maintaining current licensure in moderate disabilities and curriculum area.

Requirements

  • Bachelor’s Degree required
  • At least 6+ months classroom experience (aide/co-teacher/etc.) preferred.
  • Licensure: Curriculum certification held
  • Maintain first aid, CPR and TCI certification

Nice To Haves

  • Master’s Degree in education preferred.
  • Licensure in Moderate Disabilities 5-12 preferred.
